About
Why this exists
BRICK is a brand of objects you might not need but should consider owning. We make low-tech things for high-tech problems.
The phone in your pocket is the most lobbied-for piece of attention in human history. A couple of quiet objects, used deliberately, are a viable counterweight.
What we believe
The point is not to use less. The point is to decide when to use, and when not to. Most of the time you do not decide. The phone decides for you, by being in your hand.
BRICK objects make the decision easier by removing the choice for a defined period. The box stays shut until you dial the code and unthread the cable. The pouch blocks the signal until you take it back out. The friction is the function, and once it is done you have spent your time on the things you said you would.
What we are not
We are not a wellness brand. We do not have a manifesto about presence. We do not sell a course. We do not have an app. There is no subscription. There is nothing to charge.
BRICK is a small company in the United Kingdom making objects we wanted to exist. If they are useful to you, we are glad.
Who is behind this
BRICK is a one-person project at present. Henry, Nottingham, mid-thirties, has been writing software for ten years and reading books about it for longer. He noticed his screen time was making him slightly worse at everything he cared about. The box came first. The pouch followed.
